When Georges turns around, he is startled by Majid’s son, but still tries to remain calm in front of his co-workers. This represents a clash between George’s two worlds: the life he pretends to be living in public, and his internal and private chaos he keeps to himself. It is worth noting that Georges is a TV presenter in real life; someone who is frequently in the public eye. There is a scene Haneke shows us, before this one, where Georges carefully edits his material in the show, therefore controlling how he is viewed by the public. It is clear then how difficult it is for him to have his privacy exposed in such an abrupt way.
